New Year's Aspirations
January 9, 2007
Issue #7
Why aspirations? Everyone has New Year's resolutions, but
who wants to be like everyone else? Besides, if you are like
everyone else, you'll get the same results, only lesser because
they were there first. Actually, this newsletter is a
collection of "Jeffisms" that hopefully impact your business in
the upcoming year and since my sons are on their way back to
college and won't be able to hear them, I'll share them with
you. (What is the age when your kids think you know something
of value?)
#1 Develop 3 Sources of Business-
Diversify! There are more ways of getting business than
referrals. How about a network group, out of town investors,
small builders... Work hard on developing new ways to get
business and 2007 will be a great year for you.
#2 Stop Doing 1 Thing You Always Do- Take a
look at everything you have always done. Drop one unproductive
thing, no matter how much you think it should have
worked or you like it. Apply the time and money to a productive
activity or having fun.
#3 Have Fun- The last time I checked there
are few brain surgeons or rocket scientists in real estate.
Enjoy what you are doing and make it fun for the people who
work with you. Plan time off to have fun. It is OK. If you
like, I'll even write you a note giving you permission.
#4 Expect The Unexpected- The market
changes, people come and go; these are just facts of life. Life
goes on. Look for opportunity in change.
#5 Keep Learning- There is always something
to learn in real estate. It feels good to acquire new knowledge
or skills. Attend seminars, read a book, surf the
net...Knowledge is power. Become more powerful!
#6 Embrace The Internet- Have a web
presence you are proud of. Clients expect to find you on the
Internet and evaluate you by how you look on the web.
#7 Become A Marketer And A Salesperson-
Start to talk and present to prospects in terms of benefits
rather than features. Use sales and marketing skills rather
than taxi driving skills.
#8 Do Something- Don't let a day go by
without an appointment or some form of prospecting. More often
than not, action trumps knowledge.
#9 Be Positive- Your attitude is under your
control. People are attracted to positive people. Bad things
happen to everyone. It is how you handle those bad things that
differentiates successful people from failures.
# 10 Call Jeff- I almost made it all the
way through without a blatant commercial pitch. I help agents
develop awesome web presences; and I coach agents on how to get
to the Next Level.
