It Is Not About Me It IS About You- The Key To Real Estate
Marketing Success
The simple statement "It's not about me, it's about you"
should be ingrained in your brain for all your real estate
marketing efforts. We get so excited about all the "stuff" we
have to give to our sellers that we often forget to tell them
what all these great things that we have mean to them.
Having the tools to help the seller is fantastic. Learning
how to use the tools is necessary. Conveying what the tools
mean to the seller is the step that we are often the weakest
on. Your success in marketing real estate starts with you being
able to let the sellers see what is in it for them.
There are hundreds of books and thousands of articles you
can read that will tell you that you have to sell the
benefits not the features but for some reason we do it
for a while and then slide back into the habit of talking about
me and not you. Write it down- its not about me its about you.
Examine your marketing materials, look at your web site, review
your conversations with clients and prospects. Increase your
real estate marketing success by constantly talking in terms of
the other guy.
When both of my sons were in grade school they each decided
that they wanted to run for student council. Neither one was
extremely popular-must be genetic. They asked me for help with
their speeches. Each one got basically the same speech- you
guessed it "Its not about me, its about you." Both not
overly popular kids were elected.
There is more to the story than the proud father starting
his family on the way to starting a political dynasty. The year
after being elected neither one asked for help. Election
results the next year saw neither being re-elected. Moral of
the story- If you want to consistently get results in
your real estate marketing, focusing on the benefits for the
other guy has to be ingrained in your brain.
